Training, Education, and Initiatives

USC is committed to providing prevention and education programming and training to students, staff, and faculty to help foster a welcoming and safe environment for all to learn, research, and work.

Required Training

Students, including undergraduate and graduate students, are required to complete training on an annual basis. Faculty and staff are required to complete training when first hired and at least every two years after hire.

Student Training

All first-time matriculating undergraduate and graduate students are required to complete the Sexual Assault Prevention online module. Returning undergraduate and graduate students are required to complete the Sexual Assault Prevention Ongoing: Taking Action online module.

In addition, first, second, and third year undergraduate students are required to take a prevention education module. Provided in live sessions by the CARE-SC team, more information on these trainings can be found on our Prevention Education Modules page.

Faculty and Staff Training

All university employees, including faculty and staff, are required to complete required Harassment Prevention Training upon hire and every two years. They will be notified when they are assigned the required training. This training includes information on:

  • How to identify potential discrimination and harassment, including sexual and gender-based harassment and related retaliation
  • How to make a report
  • Where to go for help and support

Supplemental Training

In accordance with other compliance requirements, including those outlined by the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and the Department of Education, OCRC provides the following tailored trainings:

Title IX Training for Athletics

An annual sexual violence prevention training, which also covers other forms of discrimination and harassment prevention, for all USC Athletics, including staff and student-athletes.

Training for USC Student Health Employees

An annual training tailored to units and job responsibilities and provided in partnership with Risk Management and Student Health. These training sessions cover, among other topics, the university’s Policy on Prohibited Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation (“the Policy”) and related Resolution Procedures; how discrimination or harassment, including sexual misconduct, can arise in the context of medical care between provider and patient; and university reporting and support resources for addressing and responding to forms of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and related retaliation (“prohibited conduct”), including conduct or concerns that can arise during medical care.

All OCRC training sessions also advise employees that interfering, threatening, or retaliating against students, employees, or other individuals who have engaged in protected activity (e.g., reporting potential prohibited conduct) or failing to report potential prohibited conduct may result in employee sanction and discipline.

How to Request Training by OCRC

OCRC believes in proactively providing specialized training when requested and on an as-needed basis.
